5 Most Authentic, Entertaining Personal Finance & Money Podcasts

Written by:

I buried myself under dozens of hours of financial Podcast heap, in a grueling quest find the most authentic, innovative financial Podcasts with a dash of light-hearted banter. All these align heavily with our essence – help everyone take the right decisions about money & life, with the ultimate goal to maximize joy & contentment.

I thought most of the top Podcasts showing up in your mundane Google ‘Top financial podcasts” search seem to have same pattern: too serious & preachy, brimming with number crunching ideas to track your spending, hardly using any recent digital innovations, just regurgitating same old personal finance ideas over and over. In this digital age where all of us are already dealing with endless distraction and stress, I feel the readers need something more soothing, even silly to take the edge off the money matters.

In this arduous pursuit, only below Podcasts came through, hope you enjoy listening to them & become more informed & relaxed, as much as I do.

In order of preference:

1. The Best One Yet by Nick and Jack

Behind Nick and Jack’s sassy, over-the-top daily narratives you will find 3 of the best financial news each day, every day. That and so many other informative fun-facts, anecdotes and silliness in this light-hearted, entertaining Podcast that even your kids will love’em!

No matter how strained your day went, as a YETI (that’s what they call their listeners), this will lighten your mood & still, offer some of the best business news. Don’t be fooled by hosts’ jocular demeanor, they offer astute perspective too along with the news.

This achieves the top spot, hands down!

2. ChooseFI by Jonathan and Brad

ChooseFI is the epitome of financial independence, teaching you everything you need to inculcate on your path to financial freedom. It is also a gateway to the world of FIRE movement. I personally feel gaining financial independence ultimately leads to long-term joy & a much elevated life experience, even if you love your job & don’t care about early retirement.

The best part of this Podcast is the maze of connected Podcasts, books, like-minded people you would get introduced to. I crossed paths with Peter Attia, Chris Hutchins, Mr. Money Mustache, JL Collins & so many more, thanks to ChooseFI.

Brad’s unruffled demeanor & tips on *spending* (not just saving) your money well, alone is worth the time.

Tip: Some of the episodes dive heavily into very specific topics like budgeting & frugality which may not align with everyone. I sometimes just scan the episode footnotes to see if there are any external links/topics of interest, even if I am skimming through the Podcast.

3. All the Hacks by Chris Hutchins

I found Chris’s Podcasts generating some of the best *ORIGINAL* ideas to elevate your life – be it money, travel, health, mindfulness & whole lot more!

In few months of listening, I learned about meditation, money management software, tax strategies, Disney parks hacks, the art of spontaneous conversations, hidden credit card perks & much more. I haven’t seen anyone else generating so much original, eclectic, yet really engaging content.

Kudos to Chris for keeping this a notch above the rest!

4. Motley Fool Money

Motley Fool went from weekly to daily Podcast episodes in 2022. I tune in sparingly to the daily ones but absolutely love the weekly Friday Podcast. From a dose of weekly business news to macro-economic patterns, this takes up the 4th spot.

Tip: After initial segment of financial headlines, if the guest interview is not in my alley, I would skip to the end where they discuss ‘Stocks on the radar’. Even though I am not a big active investing fan, I am in for Dan’s clever, humorous comments at the end.

5. Planet Money by NPR

NPR’s Planet Money is a light, authentic financial Podcast which covers versatile topics in world of finance & economy ranging from 10-30 mins. Have always enjoyed the easy-paced, informative style associated with Planet Money.

6. The Drive by Peter Attia

I know.. I know I said TOP 5 but here’s a bonus Podcast which has nothing to do with business & finance but everything to do with health, longevity and long-term joy.

Peter Attia brings in experts in various fields ranging from health, performance, longevity to pursuing excellence in an hour long Podcast. Peter’s no-nonsense approach towards life, longevity is highly inspiring and life changing. There was one episode which completely sold me to ‘Cold Plunge’ benefits and I have never looked back ever since.

Note: I feel some of the episodes do get a bit too “sciency” for my unsophisticated brain but I still find some important takeaways every time.

That’s it. As always, signing off with the Unruffled Life Pro Tip:
